This autumns CSS Reboot has begun

Yes! I have finally completed my contribution for this autumn's CSS Reboot. An affair where hundreds of web developers are encouraged to update their web sites simultaneously.

The process
I am not an web designer but foremost an programmer. I can not compete with the other contributions of the reboot but wanted to take part anyway. My goal with this design was to create an web standard correct site without any CSS-hacks at all. I was really tired of the old look and wanted to improve. I wanted to use rounded corners on some places and for this I used the teriffic Nifty Corners Tube. But since it is not possible to have transparency on the outside of the corners I also used another technique found on 456bereastreet.com.

No support for IE6
I decided not to have any support for IE6 or earlier versions of Internet Explorer and I wanted to use transparent PNG images (which does not work in IE6). So if you can't see my logo in the top or if the borders look strange - you are probably using IE6.

Other rebooters
There are a lot of nice rebooters this time. I will update this section as I find more web sites that I like. Here are some of them in no particular order.

I especially like 32framespersecond.com with the nice collage of images.

The german designer site Mein Brandenburg has done an absolute masterpiece. Very nice images in the gallery as well.

I also like the contribution from the developer Edoardo Sabadelli. A nice design with an intresting three-column layout with the meny in the middle. Works really well.

Weknowhtml.com has done a stylish layout against a dark gray background. Love that frog! Simple and clean html, these are definitely an company I would trust if I needed a site design.

Gradient Dropshadow Curve has a light design. I really like that AJAX search-box as well.

Hey Jasper! Many thanx for mention me on this page! I was tired of Internet Exploder too, and I've decided to not use tricks like conditional comments and specific CSS files this time, but for images I've used png with no transparencies. In fact I've not tested so much with IE. My goal was to make a standards compliant site, and we all know that IE is not standards compliant. Anyway, with IE7 your design looks good!
Hello Jesper, i like your design... it's simple, clean and it works! The main focus is on the substantial part of your website. The content... ;) I like it really... only a bit more color would not harm. I also subscribed to your feed... ;) Regards Steffen
Jesper, Thanks for the comments on my site's reboot! I followed up under your comment about your wordpress questions, check it out. Developing for IE is a pain...but you know what they say: If this job was easy, ANYONE could do it. ;-) Your design is sweet as well...i dig the texture on the background a lot. My only complaint is its a pretty huge file, so it takes a while to load up. Might wanna see if you can find a spot that it repeats and slice it down...or, re-save it with some decent compression. Nice work man!
Alex, Thank you for your advise. I made the background smaller and compressed it a bit. It went from 838kb to 36kb so that should make an difference. Yes IE has been a constant headache for the last years couple of years. This time I just wanted to have fun I did not even bother to think of IE6. I just had a look at the site in IE6 for the first time right now. It really look bad. Good thing that IE7 is finally out. I feel it's such an improvment. Web development just got fun again!
Thanks for the link Jesper. Nice reboot yourself, I like your use of PNGs and "custom corners and borders". I've used that technique also on my portfolio page.
Thanks for mentioning here my latest project ‘Mein Brandenburg’. I really appreciate this. Your reboot looks also very amazing!

Thank you for the appreciation regarding 32framespersecond. I'm really loving the balance and use of color on your page. Looks like you've reached the goals you set out to achieve. Nice!
Thanks for all the nice comments, I am really happy. It took me some time to answer this because my blog-system has been a bit unfinished. Some of your urls was broken in the comments and I finally took some time to fix this. (I deleted all my comments by mistake in the process but managed to get them back from some backups. You know the gut feeling when this sort of thing happens...) Anyway, if Any of you return to this post, I be happy to have some updates on how your're doing. Are you planning to do a reboot this spring as well? Take care all of you reboot-friends.
Please fill out all the fields.
